Honchkrow’s kit is unfortunate in that it lacks super effective moves to counteract his weaknesses. It’s great against the things it’s resistant to, especially Psychic and Dark, but it’s pretty useless against its weaknesses. As a result, the best strategy is to aim for raw DPS.
You want Snarl for Honchkrow’s Quick Moves because it has slightly higher DPS than the other two Quick Move options. Brave Bird is the Main Move with the best balance of flat damage and energy, and it also has the added benefit of broadening Honchkrow’s Type coverage slightly.
If you know what you’re fighting ahead of time, you can use Psychic or Dark Pulse, but none of its other moves come close to matching that raw DPS. You can use the combination of Snarl and Brave Bird for both offensive and defensive builds, as it provides the best balance of damage and energy.
