How To Defeat Dreaming General Boss In Darkest Dungeon 2

How To Defeat Dreaming General Boss In Darkest Dungeon 2 The enemies in Darkest Dungeon 2 are frustrating in their own right, but the “lair bosses” can be downright devastating if players go in unprepared. Even with the ability to plan ahead of time and stock up on supplies, the bosses can be difficult to deal with.

The Dreaming General, a grotesque flora-infused corpse capable of completely immobilising a party and striking them down with powerful attacks, is an excellent example.

Where Can I Find The Dreaming General?

The Dreaming General can only be found in The Tangle, in The General’s Keep, a specialised Lair. Players who are unfamiliar with this area should get a feel for the enemies strewn about before confronting the boss.

In The Tangle, enemies are “organised,” with strong health pools and the ability to buff one another via Drummer units. These units have the ability to shift the tide of battle in an instant by issuing marching orders that cause enemies to gain speed, defence, or attack buffs. The Tangle can be difficult for first-time players, and gamers will have to fight through two fights worth of enemies within The General’s Keep before taking on the bimbo.

The Dreaming General is intimidating in his own right, but his mechanic can quickly overwhelm an unprepared player, regardless of team. When confronted with the boss’s impressive 205 HP, gamers’ eyes will likely widen, but that isn’t what makes him such a difficult foe to fight. The real problem that will afflict even the most tenacious teams is the Tap Root, a large entity hidden behind the boss’ main form that serves as the puppet master in this bizarre situation.

Although the Dreaming General himself can deal significant damage, players who are prepared to heal themselves and block incoming attacks should be fine. The true mechanic is the Tap Root itself.

Gamers who fail to manage this mechanic will find their entire team encapsulated. Worse, if an entire party is carrying three stacks of roots each, the Dreaming General will unleash a powerful and punishing attack that targets everyone. Fortunately, players can avoid becoming entrapped in the roots by attacking the Tap Root, which causes the roots to recoil slightly.

The key to this battle is “time management,” or making sure players are constantly applying pressure to the Tap Root and timing their attacks to avoid becoming completely engulfed by the creeping vines. Here are some more hints to help players defeat this formidable foe:

  • One of the best strategies is to hit the Tap Root twice during each turn, this will ensure that characters are never in danger of the creeping vines that are constantly encroaching towards them. It may cause the fight with the big man himself to take a bit longer to complete but it’s a much safer strategy.
  • Bringing a frontline character with access to Taunt can make this fight a bit easier to manage as it will mitigate the Dreaming General’s attacks, allowing players to spend less time healing and more time whittling down his health.
  • Trinkets that provide extra damage, specifically melee, can make this fight a bit faster. Dreaming General has a large health pool so it can take a while for “weaker” teams to bring him down.
  • Characters with range can help keep the Tap Root from spiraling out of control as melee characters will be incapable of hitting it. Thankfully, most characters have at least one ranged option.
  • It’s always a good practice to bring Paracelsus for boss fights, as their ability to heal to provide stress resistance (via an upgraded Ounce of Prevention) is unparalleled.
  • Players should stock up on healing items and bring characters that are capable of self-healing as the Dreaming General fight can drag on thanks to his immense HP.
  • The Dreaming General is a long fight for most but some find it to be the easiest boss to defeat once players understand the mechanics. Focusing the vines should always be a priority but players shouldn’t have to worry about a barrage of annoying status effects.
