How To Evolve Clamperl In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl

How To Evolve Clamperl In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl. Most Pokemon that can evolve go through a two- or three-stage process. Other Pokemon, on the other hand, do not evolve at all or have branching evolutions. Evolution with branches Pokemon normally have distinct stats and, on rare occasions, different typing from one another. There are a lot of Pokemon with branching evolutions in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl because they span four generations. Clamperl, which evolves into Huntail or Gorebyss, is a lesser-known Pokemon.

Clamperl first appeared in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, and its method of evolution has stayed the same throughout the generations. It’s the same process in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as it was in Ruby/Sapphire: have Clamperl hold the correct item, then trade it to another trainer.

Finding Clamperl & Deep Sea Tooth/Scale

Clamperl must be exchanged while holding a Deep Sea Tooth or a Deep Sea Scale in order to develop. If players want Huntail, the Deep Sea Tooth must be held. The Deep Sea Scale is required for Gorebyss. Clamperl will not spawn until trainers have obtained their National Dex, however the Deep Sea Tooth and Scale can be acquired in the Grand Underground before that.

The Deep Sea Tooth can be located in the Grand Underground’s southern hideaways. From Canalave City, explore the Grand Underground and hunt for hidden gems like Fountainspring Cave. Visit frosty hideaways like Icy Cave near Celestic Town to obtain the Deep Sea Scale. Both evolution items will be Poke Ball Items in their respective hideaways.

A wild Carvanha and Chinchou have a 5% chance of holding the Deep Sea Tooth and Deep Sea Scale, respectively. At the Great Marsh (Carvanha) and Route 220, they can be caught with the Super Rod (Chinchou).

After becoming Champion, Clamperl can be found in the following hideaways:

  • Fountainspring Cave
  • Riverbank Cave
  • Still-Water Cavern

Using the Super Rod on Route 219 or Route 221 is another way to catch Clamperl. Clamperl is an uncommon Pokemon with a 5% chance of being hooked. In the wild, it will be about level 20-30.

More Information About Clamperl’s Evolutions

Huntail and Gorebyss are both Water-type Pokemon, hence their Type-effectiveness is the same. They also share the same sum of base stats (485) as each other. Huntail has a higher Attack than Gorebyss, but Gorebyss has a greater Special Attack. They both have the same base Defense and have middling Speed, Health, and Special Defense.

NameBase StatBase Stat Total
HuntailHP: 55485
Attack: 104
Defense: 105
Special Attack: 94
Special Defense: 75
Speed: 52
GorebyssHP: 55485
Attack: 84
Defense: 105
Special Attack: 114
Special Defense: 75
Speed: 52

The learnsets of Huntail and Gorebyss reflect their stats: Huntail possesses more Physical abilities, whilst Gorebyss possesses more Special abilities. When Gorebyss levels up, he doesn’t get an Ice-type move, while Huntail gets Ice Fang. Trainers, on the other hand, can teach Gorebyss Ice Beam with TM13, which can be purchased at Veilstone City’s department store. Ice moves are vital for Gorebyss and Huntail since they protect them from one of their weaknesses: grass-type attacks.

How To Evolve Clamperl

Both evolutions have the following Type-effectiveness:

Strengths:Fire, Ground, Rock
Weaknesses:Grass, Electric
Resistances:Water, Ice, Steel, Fire
Immunities:N/A

Naughty (+Attk, -Sp.Def) is an excellent Huntail Nature. Despite having a lesser Special Attack than Gorebyss, Huntail can still perform moves like Ice Beam. Ice Beam has more power than Ice Fang, which is something to consider while creating Huntail’s moveset. Players can also try running with an Impish Nature (+Def, -Sp.Atk), although it’s not as good as a Naughty Nature.

A Modest (+Sp.Attk, -Attk) or a Timid (+Spd, -Attk) Nature can help Gorebyss. Gorebyss’ Attack isn’t as good as Huntail’s, and its moves are mostly Special. Allow Gorebyss to use Shell Smash in battle to gain two levels of Attack, Special Attack, and Speed at the expense of Defense and Special Defense.

Despite their good Attack and Special Attack, Gorebyss and Huntail struggle to compete against other Water-types. Because of their slow movement speed, they will be unable to 1HKO a formidable opponent if they do not make the initial move. While they have a strong Defense, they have a low Special Defense, which means Special Moves like Thunderbolt or Leaf Storm will easily take them out.

While Gorebyss and Huntail may struggle in tournaments, they’re great for the storey mode in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl or fighting random NPCs. Trainers should put Clamperl through some EV training before developing it into Huntail or Gorebyss if they wish to take them to the Battle Tower.
