How To Beat Odin In Shin Megami Tensei 5

How To Beat Odin In Shin Megami Tensei 5. The final open-world challenge in Shin Megami Tensei 5 is Taito. Bosses, exploration, objectives, and even basic opponents have all been cranked up a level, making them substantially more difficult to overcome.

Odin is a terrifyingly powerful physical force of nature. To demonstrate this, Odin has one of the highest Physical Potentials in the game, which is backed up by a 72 Strength stat.

To top it all off, Odin has a reasonable Electric Potential, which is backed up by a shockingly high Magic stat of 67. He also has several support Potentials and Magic, which nicely fill out his arsenal.

Attacks

AttackExplanation
Gungnir +6(Unique) Odin deals Severe Physical damage to one party member. This attack ignores affinity resistance and pierces through.
Charge +1Odin’s next Strength-based attack deals increased damage.
Concentrate +1Odin’s next Magic-based attack deals increased damage.
Hades Blast +6Odin deals Heavy Physical damage to the entire party.
Ziodyne +4Odin deals Heavy Electric damage to one party member.
Thunder Reign +4Odin deals Medium Electric damage, two to five times, to random party members.
MabufudyneOdin deals Heavy Ice damage to the entire party. Odin will only use this attack after he has gathered Magatsuhi.
DekajaOdin removes all status buffs from your party.
Omagatoki: CriticalAll Odin’s attacks, including Magic-based ones, have a 100% chance of inflicting a Critical Hit.

Odin is a tough duck, with a more difficult-to-counter kit than you’d expect from the trio’s brawler leader. His assaults are powerful, and he can make them much more so when he wants to. He can also completely disregard your numbers.

Odin’s most powerful assault is Gungnir. If this hits, someone is going to take a lot of damage, and there’s not much you can do about it. This creature does a lot of damage and doesn’t care about your fortifications. Your only hope is to use spells to weaken Odin’s attack or decrease his accuracy and pray.

Gungnir becomes even more terrifying when Odin prepares it with Charge, which increases the damage of any attack it precedes by a significant amount. If Odin uses Gungnir after Charge, there’s a good possibility that everything he hits will die instantly. It might be game over if this collides with Nahobino.

Concentrate is similar to Charge, except it only works on magical assaults. Odin isn’t nearly as skilled with magic, therefore this isn’t as dangerous. He also lacks the ability to pierce defences with his magic, thus some Electric resistance or immunity should suffice.

Odin can also use Hades Blast, which is a physical attack that isn’t fun to use. Heavy damage in an AoE is still dangerous, and if Odin decides to Charge ahead of time, your party could be in for a lot of trouble. Thankfully, Odin does not have a skill like Impaler’s Animus that can impart pierce to this strike, therefore Physical resistance will help a lot.

With Odin’s stats, Ziodyne is a highly hazardous spell, but it’s easy to plan for. It will hurt if it lands, but there are many ways to minimise the damage, such as debuffs, resistances, and dampers.

Odin, strangely, shares the majority of his resistances with Zeus. He is totally immune to Light and Dark, and he reflects Electric damage. Odin’s Achilles heel is his Force vulnerability. Physical damage scales better than Magic damage, therefore bringing brawlers to the fight instead of Force users is a possible option.

Bringing a tank and a spanking party is the best method to cope with Odin. This will necessitate a hefty demon capable of taking a beating, as well as a swarm of angry demons who will lash out at Odin like there’s no tomorrow.

Remember that support demons are powerful in and of themselves, but support talents can be used to any demon, including your offensive ones. This gives you a little more leeway when planning your party.

Rangda

Rangda is the lynchpin that keeps this group together. Rangda is one of the few demons who can automatically reflect physical strikes, making her an excellent tank. She isn’t without flaws, though. You’ll have to put in some effort to make Rangda into the indestructible beast she deserves to be.

To begin, you’ll want to transfer as many nulls and/or resistances onto Rangda as feasible. Electric and Ice are the most important, and both may be accomplished via Fusion. Demons like Skadi and Lillith will take care of that, and essence transfers will conceal the remainder of her flaws.

You should also transfer Taunt to Rangda, as this will target her for the majority of Odin’s assaults. Odin’s turn counter will be substantially impacted because she is immune to all of Odin’s strikes.

Rangda can also employ the Force well, which makes her helpful for producing bonus turns when attacking. This is just the cherry on top of an already fantastic cake.

Things to keep in mind when using Rangda: first and foremost, taunt isn’t always effective, and Odin will sometimes disregard it. You must ensure that everyone in your party, notably Nahobino, is capable of suffering a hit. Second, Gungnir will punch right through your resistances, so if Rangda can’t take a direct blow, be ready to resurrect. Enduring Soul is another option.

Thor

Thor, Odin’s son, is excellent in this combat. He’s amazing in all of Taito’s boss bouts. His physical talents are formidable, and he is unconcerned with Odin’s electric strikes.

Physical Resistance may be transferred to Thor with extremely minimal effort, making him considerably more difficult to shift – even when Odin is launching charged Hades Blasts. Consider transferring Catastrophe and Physical Pleroma to increase his damage.

Remember that Thor’s strongest native attack scales based on his current health if you don’t want to transfer stronger strikes onto him. To optimise Thor’s damage, place him after your healer in the party lineup.

Mara

For this bout, Mara is the ideal brawler. Mara, like Thor, is unconcerned about Odin’s Electric powers, and can be made resistant to his Physical efforts with a few transfers.

Physical Pleroma should also be transferred to Mara to increase the already potent damage that Hell Thrust deals. Finally, Toxic Spray will reduce Odin’s protection, even if it is unlikely to poison him. This is a fantastic technique to debuff Odin without needing to rely on committed support.

Fuu-Ki

Fuu-ki is more of a backup option. Fuu-numbers ki’s aren’t terrific; his Magic and Strength stats are woefully inadequate for a demon of his level. Fuu-ki, on the other hand, has access to Zandyne, a high Force Potential, and innate Force Pleroma to compensate. Fuu-ki also comes with Masukunda, which can be used to reduce Odin’s accuracy, which you should definitely do.

Unfortunately, Fuu-ki is vulnerable to both Ziodyne and Thunder Reign because he is weak to Electric. At the absolute least, you’ll need to put Electric resistance onto him.

Seth

In this fight, Seth is comparable to a Red Mage. He has excellent stats and the potential to match them. Mazandyne, the auto-critting Yabusame Shot, and the swingy Madness Nails are all included in his standard kit. Transferring Physical and/or Force Pleroma, as well as a single-target Force spell like Zandyne or Zanbarion to save MP, can assist Seth advance to the next level.

Mot

Mot is most likely the most powerful dedicated Force caster in this fight. Mot arrives with Zanbarion, a powerful Force spell that will rip Odin to shreds. He also has High Restore, which aids in the recovery of some of the MP expended while casting Zanbarion. Mot backs up this strong combo with a fantastic Magic stat and the ability to transfer Force Potentials.

Mot becomes even more powerful if you can get Force Pleroma upon him. Mot, like Fuu-ki, is vulnerable to Electric, which is a no-no in this fight. Transfer electric resistances to combat this.

Preparing For Battle

Your first priority should be to keep Nahobino alive. Physical resistance and, if feasible, some Electricity are the best ways to do this. Keep in mind that nothing will be able to block Gungnir, so if this lands, you will feel it.

Aside from that, having Nahobino pull his weight in battle will be beneficial. Magic Zanbarion should be a priority for Nahobinos, but Murakumo from Aogami Type-0 should be the focus of a Strength-based Nahobino. This Almighty strike has a high base damage and adds extra damage if it hits a critical. Consider using something like Murderous Glee to improve this.

Kannabi Veil remains a terrific support spell as well. Odin will be unable to krump your party with AoE attacks, and Gungnir’s damage will be reduced. This is a fantastic spell to have in your lineup.

Dampers

To keep Odin’s Magatsuhi turn from shutting down, you’ll need three Ice Dampers. It just costs 450 Macca, and it is well worth your money. Pick up three Electric Dampers and fling them out to capture Odin’s Ziodyne and Thunder Reign if you want to be extra aggressive. If you’re lucky, this can offer you three full turns of nonstop assault at the start of the conflict.

Gems

When trying to cycle your party, Gems and Shards are good for providing you extra turns. You could also use Pass, but this gives you the option of doing so while dealing little harm. This duel will necessitate the use of Force gems.

Battle Strategy

First and foremost, Odin has a chance to win with a fortunate Charge+Gungnir into Nahobino’s face. With no counterplay, if he crits, it’s pretty much game over right there. If this occurs, you have been unfortunate. Reload the page and give it another go.

To keep Odin occupied, you should have Rangda cast Taunt every three turns (most of the time). Rangda should be nearly eternal as a result of your time, effort, and resources spent preparing for this fight, providing you lots of opportunities to lay into Odin.

You should spend some time decreasing Odin’s accuracy and/or attack while Rangda is tanking to take the edge off Gungnir. A few Sekundas here and there should suffice. Once he’s been nicely debuffed, go all out on him with your most powerful attacks.

Odin is a difficult cookie, but with a focused offence, he will be easily dispatched. If Rangda dies, rapidly resurrect her and reintroduce her into the combat.

You’re one step closer to fleeing Taito now that Odin has been defeated.
