How To Feed Chickens In Stardew Valley

How To Feed Chickens In Stardew Valley users can raise a wide variety of animals. Because a coop designed just for hens is quite inexpensive, chickens are likely to be many players’ first animal in-game.

The chickens in Stardew Valley lay large eggs. The quantity and quality of these eggs are determined by each chicken’s pleasure, which is influenced by whether they are fed, kept warm, and petted by the player. Feeding the hens, on the other hand, can be a mystery to newcomers to the game.

Because the quality of the chickens’ produce is greatly influenced by whether or not they are fed, it is critical for players to actively feed them. Fortunately, chickens will consume two different things, both of which are plentiful on players’ Stardew Valley farms.

Grass is the first thing birds eat. This does not refer to the stiff plants that players cannot traverse until they use a scythe to hack them down, but rather the long and soft grass that players can cut down. However, in order to eat this, players must let their chickens out of their coops.

To open a coop or any other animal holding farm building, players must first stand outside it. A vertical door can be opened with a right click or whatever button is mapped to the players’ secondary action next to the door that they use to enter the building. This will allow the animals to depart the structure. Animals, on the other hand, will not leave the building at night, if it is raining, or if it is Stardew Valley’s winter season. This also means that they won’t consume grass.

Hay is another choice for chicken feeding. Marnie sells 50g bags of hay, which can be purchased or collected from grass using a scythe. Players, on the other hand, can only harvest hay from grass if they have an empty silo. Silos can be built in Robin just like any other agricultural structure.

Players must place hay on the feeding dish in the back of the coop in order to feed the chickens. Players can acquire hay from the silos from the hay box in the top left corner of the coop if they want to use it on their Stardew Valley farm. This box can also be used to return extra hay to the silo.

An automatic hay feeder will be installed to players’ coops whenever they upgrade to the deluxe coop. This means that as long as there is hay in the silos, hay will be automatically placed on the trough.

Chickens with Golden Eggs

A Golden Chicken can also obtained, which has its own set of prices for the eggs it produces. Every day, Golden Chickens will lay an egg. By growing the fowl to adulthood, players can create their own stable of Golden Chickens. There are four distinct ways to obtain Golden Eggs:

  • Purchased from Qi’s Walnut Room for 100 Qi Gems.
  • By a random event in which a Golden Witch will fly over the player’s Coop after they have fallen asleep and leave a Golden Egg inside.
  • Purchased from Marnie for 100,000g.
  • Can also be found in Fishing Treasure Chests randomly at a very rare rate (0.12% chance).

Players can hatch a Golden Egg inside a Coop once they have obtained one. It will take 6 days, or 3 days if the player is a Coopmaster. Players must feed a Golden Chick for three days after it hatches from the egg in order for it to mature into a Golden Chicken. When sold, Golden Eggs will produce the following values:
